At Margs Hyperbarics, we specialise exclusively in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), offering a focused and expert-driven approach to healing, recovery, and overall wellness. Unlike other wellness centres, our sole dedication to HBOT ensures the highest standards of care, safety and effectiveness. Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing chronic health conditions, enhancing athletic or cognitive performance, supporting other cancer treatments, or simply looking to optimise your health, our tailored services are here to support your needs.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a well-established technology that’s been in use for over 80 years. It works by increasing the amount of oxygen your body absorbs in our enclosed, hard-shell Chamber. While the air we normally breathe contains 21% oxygen, HBOT delivers much higher concentrations—allowing your body to experience benefits that go far beyond basic oxygenation.

By significantly raising oxygen levels in the blood and tissues, HBOT can help to accelerate healing, reduce inflammation, stimulate cellular regeneration, and boost overall energy levels. With consistent use, it can support both short-term recovery and long-term health improvements.

In essence, oxygen is the body’s most powerful fuel—and sometimes, your body just needs more of it to truly thrive.

HBOT for Chronic Pain

More than any other element, oxygen is vital to life and good health. We can live without food or water for days, but if we don’t have oxygen we will die within minutes. Every activity of our bodies, from breathing to brain function to healing to waste elimination, is regulated by oxygen.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) promotes healing and better health by flooding the body with oxygen. It is a holistic treatment used for detoxification and stimulation of the Immune system.

It is believed that by controlling diseases in the body through Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), we can also control their effects on our body’s internal systems such as pain.

Pain starts when cells are exposed to decreased levels of oxygen, and chronic pain is driven by the absence of oxygen. It is a signal from the brain that the cell is not getting enough oxygen. This low level of oxygen in the blood is called hypoxia. Nerves are extremely sensitive to cellular oxygen levels. A tiny reduction can cause numbness, pain, tingling, and weakness.

WHAT IS CHRONIC PAIN?

Chronic pain is any pain lasting more than six months. The pain level may vary from mild discomfort to excruciating, and can be continuous or episodic. Chronic pain remains in the nervous system for extended period of time, affecting not only a person’s physical well-being, but sometimes their emotional health as well.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has been effectively used to reduce chronic pain, especially fibromyalgia syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, migraine, and cluster headaches.

HBOT for Sports & Injuries

Are you a fitness fanatic looking for an energy boost that you need during your workouts?  Do you feel sluggish or fatigued days after a hard workout?  Are you training for fun or competitive event or race?  Whatever your fitness goals are, the key to improving your athletic performance is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) which allows athletes of every level to perform sharper, train longer and recover faster.

The idea was first developed through scuba diving when divers reported feeling refreshed and invigorated, even after surfacing. Some claimed their joint stiffness went away and their focus became really sharp. Today, medical studies on the healing properties of Hyperbarics have triggered this therapy’s growth beyond the diving world.

THE POWER OF OXYGEN

On average, an individual consumes about 6 pounds of oxygen per day, far outweighing any other nutrient demands. Although oxygen performs many roles in the body, its primary role is in the production of energy. Yes, that is correct, only 50% of our energy comes from the fats and carbohydrates we consume. In order for our bodies to make this stored energy usable, our cells must convert this energy into molecules of ATP using OXYGEN!

THE ELEVATED OXYGEN LEVELS HELP INCREASE PERFORMANCE AND RECOVERY MORE QUICKLY AFTER A WORKOUT.

By using Hyperbaric Chamber, we are able to greatly increase the partial pressure of oxygen, which then dissolves the oxygen into the plasma and other waterborne fluids of the body. This is extremely significant because water and gases dissolved within it, are able to cross the cells semi-permeable membrane via osmosis and diffusion. Since the body is approximately 70% water and every cell literally bathes in water, we use the Chamber to deliver oxygen to every tissue in the body… Our bodies do the rest!

FATIGUE

Oxygen is essential to all of us, not just athletes, because it facilitates the production of glycogen, one of the main sources of energy for the muscles.

During training, glucose molecule splits into two molecules of pyruvic acid. One of the molecules enter the muscle cells, which in combination with oxygen, produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP – adenosine triphosphate) – the muscle power supply. When there is not enough oxygen to create ATP, pyruvic acid turns into lactic acid, which dissolves in the blood and is being removed gradually. But during intense exercise, it is collected in the muscles, causing fatigue.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) saturates the body, giving it the needed oxygen to produce ATP and removes lactic acid, which causes fatigue. High amount of oxygen helps athletes to increase performance and recover faster after exercise. In addition, it improves brain functions, and helps the athlete to make decisions in no time that could make a difference in the outcome of the competition.

RECOVERY

Most sports injuries involve strains and sprains, leading to fluid accumulation in the connective tissue. This natural reaction of the body compresses vessels and restricts the natural flow of vital oxygen, that leads plasma and red blood cells to the injury site. This way, the tissues surrounding the lesion site no longer receive oxygen, which prevents healing.

HBOT saturates plasma and hemoglobin with oxygen. Red blood cells become more malleable and increase their ability to penetrate these blocked vessels. Oxygen helps cells to heal and the body to defend itself. Recovery time is significantly reduced. Pressured Chamber favors the withdrawal of edema and increases blood pressure in the affected areas.

In the case of trauma and fractures, one of the most basic ingredients needed to repair tissue is oxygen that has a major importance in the post traumatic recovery. Studies abroad show that fractures treated with HBOT recover five times faster.

For ligament ruptures, Hyperbaric Oxygen also leads to shorten the recovery time (eg. in case of a cruciate ligament recovery is reduced from 6 months to 3 months). To increase the effectiveness of this therapy post traumatic individual treatments must be performed immediately after the injury.

WITH HYPERBARIC TREATMENT, A SPRAINED ANKLE MIGHT RECOVER IN FOUR DAYS INSTEAD OF EIGHT; A BRUISED THIGH COULD MEND IN ONE WEEK, NOT THREE. RECOVERY TIME IS REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY AND ATHLETES GET BACK INTO PLAY FASTER.

Dr. Rossignol, medical doctor and hyperbaric specialist, equated an hour treatment in Hyperbaric Chamber to taking 1400 mg of Motrin, without the toxic response. “You get increased oxygenation, decreased swelling, and decreased inflammation, all from one treatment,” Dr. Rossignol commented. “If a drug did this, a pharmaceutical company would make quite a bit of money.”

HBOT for Stress

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed out lately? Do things seem to bother you more in recent days than they used to? Do you seem to notice having less energy and stamina no matter what the task is you are attempting to achieve? Has your “get-up-and-go” seem to have “got-up-and-gone”?

If so, try this simple exercise – Take a deep breath…..Really…Stop for a minute while you read this and take a deep, cleansing breath. Now take another. Be honest – don’t you feel wider awake and more alert after this simple exercise? Of course you do. The reason – You brought more oxygen, the fuel for life, into action and your whole body responded!

Now, imagine being in hyperbaric oxygen chamber for 60 minutes while you breath in pure oxygen during pressurization.

In fact, many people become so relaxed they fall asleep while undergoing Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

WHAT IS STRESS?

Stress is a common emotional response most of us experience. How it affects us, largely depends upon how we are able to deal with the emotion when we realize it is starting to impact our day-to-day lives. Unfortunately, there is no way to fully eliminate stress as it does have its benefits, as you will see shortly.

However, it is when stress reaches too high of a level it can lead to anxiety, worry, and panic attacks, as well as lower our immune response and lead to increased risks for illnesses and diseases.

HOW IS STRESS BENEFICIAL?

Stress helps motivate us and keep us active. It stimulates brain functions and allows us to perform deductive reasoning, improves our concentration, and allows us to focus on specific tasks. When we have too little stress in our lives, it can cause boredom and even be a cause of depression in some people.

As stress levels increase, our initial response is normally one that allows us to be highly productive and complete tasks. This in turns, makes us feel a sense of accomplishment, and stress levels become less and remain within the “acceptable” range. But, when stress levels continue to increase past this point is where we need to be concerned.

WHEN SHOULD YOU BE CONCERNED ABOUT STRESS?

Constant, elevated stress levels do not allow our bodies to respond in a positive manner. Rather, they cause a negative response, like those mentioned above.

Furthermore, one might notice an increase in weight, often as a result of increased fat in the belly region from eating and snacking on unhealthy foods we find comfort in whenever we are trying to resolve elevated stress levels.

HOW DOES HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY (HBOT)  HELP?

HBOT exposes our bodies to elevated levels of oxygen-rich air. Since more oxygen is being spread throughout the circulatory system and tissues within the body, it stimulates the body’s healing response system.

In addition, Oxygen helps reduce anxiety levels and stress levels due to heightened levels of Oxygen within the brain and creates a calming effect.

Stress and anxiety slowly start to become less intense emotions and are replaced by a relaxed state of mind.

For instance, HBOT has been used by military veterans experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Those that receive regular HBOT noticed many of the symptoms associated with PTSD, like depression and anxiety became less frequent and severe, allowing them to better integrate back into private life and society.

OTHER HBOT BENEFITS

Besides providing stress and anxiety relief, HBOT also:

  • Assists in rehabilitation by stimulating production of the body’s stem cells

  • Boosts immune system function

  • Decreases swelling and inflammation

  • Delivers oxygen to tissues up to 25 times normal levels

  • Heals injuries much faster

  • Helps the body to clear toxins

  • Increases the body’s ability to fight infection

  • Promotes regeneration of injured tissues

  • Reduces fatigue from chronic hypoxia

  • Stimulates brain & nerve cells recovery from injury (hypoxic penumbra)

  • Stimulates collagen production speeding up the wound healing process

  • Supports growth of new blood vessels

Our bodies are amazing, and given the right environment, amazing things happen and without the need of invasive procedures or heavy medications.
